Melbourne Cinémathèque

Event Promotion

Completion in 2023

Project Supervisor:
Kate Mansell

My proposed identity for the Melbourne Cinémathèque draws inspiration from the experience of watching a movie. The identity is reliant on the use of imagery and the compositions created by the imagery paired with the lime green-coloured font chosen.

The initial concept for the identity poster went through multiple iterations until the collaged, grungy, cropped aesthetic was landed on. The composition of the photoshopped eyes works well with the bold typeface to create a clean poster design that sets the tone for my proposed identity system. The calendar design mirrors the poster design, incorporating mouth reactions to films scattered around the design along with the coloured abstract shapes.

Overall, my proposed identity resonates with film audiences with their reactions to watching films at the cinema being reflected. The identity system uses a simple colour scheme to communicate its ideas and could be modified to work across multiple different formats.
